Membership/Uniforms/Troop Activities financial aid is primarily intended to offset the cost of participating in Girl Scout programs, including membership dues, uniforms, books, and patches. Membership dues are received directly by GSUSA for girls and adult volunteers. Volunteers or parents obtain uniforms, books, and patches at a Council shop by presenting a Council-issued financial aid letter that indicates eligible merchandise and supplies that may be purchased. 2. Funds for Camperships and Destination Scholarships are awarded based on an application process. Funds that are not used for the designated purpose are returned to Council. 3. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character through programs that include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), the outdoors, life skills, and entrepreneurship. The outdoors has always been an essential component of the Girl Scout experience. GSSJC offers day and summer overnight camping to help girls learn about nature and the environment and encourage them to interact meaningfully with their surroundings. Camp activities include outdoor skill building and sports, arts and crafts, and hiking under the supervision of trained adults and camp aides within safe and nurturing environments. The summer camp program also encourages growth and independence. Chartered by GSUSA to provide Girl Scouting locally, GSSJC is one of the largest Girl Scout councils in the nation. Over 39,000 girls are served across 26 counties in Southeast Texas, and 18,000 adult members give their time and talents during the year. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 6 Members of GSSJC include community delegates selected by the communities, regional delegates selected by the regions, delegates-at-large selected by the Board Development Committee, officers and members of the Board of Directors, and members of the Board Development Committee. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 7b Members also determine general lines of direction for Girl Scouting within the jurisdiction of GSSJC by receiving and responding to reports and information from the Board of Directors, amending the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, taking all other actions requiring membership vote, conducting such other business as may, from time to time, come before the members of GSSJC, and request, on their initiative, that the Board of Directors consider the feasibility of some new plan or change in direction. Upon recommendation from the Treasurer of the Finance Committee, the Board of Directors reviews the Form 990 before filing. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c Annually, each Board member is given a form asking for disclosure of any related parties or conflicts of interest. If a conflict arises, the Board follows procedures addressing conflicts of interest in the conflict of interest policy. Conflicted members may present to the Board but must leave the meeting after the presentation and cannot vote on matters in conflict. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 Annually, the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors reviews the compensation of the CEO. The review involves examining the organization's overall performance over the year, the CEO's current and previous salary, and a comparison of CEOs in similar-sized organizations. Annual performance evaluations are performed for the key employees of the organization. Merit increases are provided based on the results of performance evaluations. Also, compensation for employees was compared to salary survey data provided by our PEO partner, Insperity.
