Families Against Narcotics (FAN) helps individuals seeking to reduce their dependency on such substances to find viable treatment options, as well as provides peer recovery coaches and sober living scholarships. FAN offers education to the public (including students, parents, first responders, doctors and others) about the dangers of OUD / SUD and to help reduce the attached stigma. FAN also offers family recovery coaches to those affected by another's addiction. Once the application is submitted, the information is presented anonymously to a committee for evaluation. Committee rulings are based on but not limited to the applicant's current status of recovery, employment, and other sources of funding. Each committee member submits their vote for the funding to be approved or not approved. Once the decision has been determined, applicants are notified of the ruling whether the funding has been granted or not. If approved, FAN coordinates payment to the sober living facility directly. Funds are awarded on a two-week basis. An applicant may apply for additional funding after their initial two weeks has expired (up to an additional two weeks). The request must be submitted via the same application process and the recipient must disclose that they are requesting additional funding and the reasoning. Participating sober living facilities must notify FAN if the resident leaves before their funding has expired. Otherwise, the sober living house invoices FAN at the end of the individual's funded stay. Part III, Line 1(f): Recovery Scholarships: Families Against Narcotics offers sober living scholarships to people who are being discharged from treatment and need initial financial assistance. This allows the recipient to focus on their recovery and finding employment instead of worrying about finances as they move into sober living. Transitioning from treatment to a sober way of life can be incredibly challenging, so sober living houses are a valuable resource for those who are new to recovery.
