In FY25, the Center provided ongoing full representation to 259 new clients on civil legal matters. The Center also provided legal advice and referrals at community-based clinics where 764 individuals received legal assistance on a range of civil legal issues and an additional 465 individuals received assistance on immigration matters. Through the Landlord Tenant Legal Assistance Network, the Center conducted 3,379 intakes to be routed to network partners; and through the Family Law Assistance Network, the Center assisted 474 individuals in Superior Court domestic relations proceedings. Finally, the Center maintains Superior Court-based resource centers to serve pro se litigants in landlord-tenant matters. In FY25, these centers served 1,269 people. 668390 13800 Nonprofit and Small Business (NPSB) Legal Assistance Programs: The NPSB Programs provide brief legal advice, legal training, and match nonprofit organizations and small business owners with pro bono counsel to meet their transactional and business law needs. In FY25, NPSB matched 35 nonprofits with ongoing pro bono counsel and provided 413 nonprofits with one-on-one brief advice via legal clinics and weekly Office Hours consultations. NPSB additionally served 658 small business owners throughout the year via its small business brief advice legal clinics. Finally, NPSB provided legal training to 2,356 nonprofit and small business representatives, and to the volunteer attorneys that assist them, on relevant business law topics. 655521 200 Online and Other Projects: In FY25, the Pro Bono Center provided digital services that included LawHelp.org/DC, a website that provides legal and referral information to the general public; the Legal Information Help Line, which provides recorded legal information 24 hours a day in multiple languages; and Probono.net/dc, a free online resource for pro bono lawyers and legal services attorneys with more than 12,000 registered users. Bar Pro Bono Center is established by the District of Columbia Bar using several benchmarking methods. These include a compensation survey or study, guidance from an independent compensation consultant, and comparisons with Form 990 filings from similar organizations. Part III, Line 4d Outreach Services: In FY25, the D.C. Pro Bono Center participated in training sessions for 635 volunteer attorneys to prepare them to undertake pro bono assignments from various District of Columbia legal services providers. The trainings covered a variety of practice areas including bankruptcy, family, landlord-tenant, client-centered lawyering, and public benefits law. Part V, Question 2a D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center's IRS Form 941 for the period ending June 30, 2025 shows a total of 39 employees. Part VI, Line 1a There are no committees with authority to act on behalf of the board. Part VI, Line 11b The Form 990 is prepared by staff and reviewed by the independent auditor and senior management. It is then distributed to the Investment Committee of the Board for review. The finalized Form 990 is distributed to the Board for comment prior to filing. Part VI, Line 12c At the beginning of the year, July 1, the Executive office (staff liaison) distributes the conflict-of-interest policy to the Board of Directors of the Pro Bono Center and a questionnaire to be completed by each Board member and Key Employee. The completed forms are kept on file in the Executive Office. If a conflict is disclosed, the Board member recuses him/herself from the meeting and the issue is discussed by the remaining Board members during which the issue is resolved, and appropriate action is taken pursuant to the policy. Potential conflicts at the Board level are reviewed by the Board; conflicts at the staff level are reviewed by senior management. Part VI, Line 15a The D.C. Bar oversees the compensation decisions for the Pro Bono Centers Executive Vice President and other key employees. Compensation is determined using an independent consultant, a 2024 compensation survey, and benchmarking against Form 990 data from comparable organizations. Based on the consultants recommendations, market-based salary ranges for each role are established and are updated annually.
