This past year MSCSA held two leadership conferences. Regular communications are also sent to senate presidents and student senate advisors across the state and MSCSA visits campuses to train students around civic engagement activities and various leadership development skills. 291765 15375 0 Advocacy: MSCSA works to uplift the voices of community and technical college students on campus with key decision makers and in our communities. This past year LeadMN helped students register to vote and cast their ballots in a safe manner. MSCSA represents student interest at the college state and federal levels. On the federal level MSCSA led a group of students to visit Washington DC to meet with federal lawmakers. Once a year, a state advocacy day event is held where students are encouraged to participate in meeting with state legislators, and advocate for themselves. 145882 231950 0 Scholarship & Emergency Assistance: MSCSA raises funds and provides scholarships to students across Minnesota who demonstrate leadership on their campuses and in their communities. The Free College Scholarship -Mr. Warren H. Robens and Mr. Henry P. Dembiczak Scholarship program launched in FY2024, awarding $163,000 (28 recipients received either $6,500 for full-time students or $3,250 for part-time). This past year MSCSA continued operating an Emergency Grant Program to support students that have been impacted by the pandemic. Over 134 emergency grants ranging from $100 to $200 were awarded totaling $14,000. Schedule D, Part X, Line 2 LeadMN's activities are generally exempt from federal and state income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Since LeadMN is exempt from federal and state income tax liability, no provision is made for current or deferred income tax expense. LeadMN is not a private foundation. Management has determined that LeadMN is not subject to unrelated business income tax. Management is not aware of any transactions that would impact LeadMN's tax-exempt status. LeadMN follows the guidance of the Accounting Standard Codification (ASC) 740, Accounting for Income Taxes, related to uncertainties in income taxes, which prescribes a threshold of more likely than not for recognition and derecognition of positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. For the years ended June 30, 2024 and 2023, management of LeadMN is not aware of any material uncertain tax positions. All tax-exempt entities are subject to review and audit by federal, state and other applicable agencies. Such agencies may review the taxability of unrelated business income, or the qualification of the tax-exempt entity under the Internal Revenue Code and applicable state statutes. For federal tax purposes, the tax returns remain open for possible examination for a period of three years after the respective filing deadlines of those returns. It takes at least 2/3 of the votes to get the nomination to serve as an officer or on the Governing Council.
