(Family Service) has offered comprehensive services to vulnerable populations in the community since 1903, and its mission has remained strong, empowering individuals and families to transform their lives and strengthen our communities. Today, 122 years later Family Service provides a wide array of services and programs aligned with the Social Determinants of Health provided through a Trauma Informed Care approach utilizing over 480 staff members, dozens of interns and hundreds of volunteers. In addressing the Social Determinants of Health, (addressing the challenges in the community around education quality & access, health & healthcare, neighborhood built environments, social & community context, economic stability), Family Service is working to address the root causes of barriers and challenges in peoples lives to effect long-term, sustainable change and positive impact. Programs include mental health and well-being counseling services, child abuse prevention, parent engagement, family strengthening, case management, early childhood education, financial empowerment, workforce readiness, and senior services. Family Service supports families on their path toward working, earning and saving their way toward self-sufficiency; reducing abuse and neglect of children and the elderly; and partnering with families to be healthy and resilient, including support to ensure children succeed in school. These efforts have demonstrated effectiveness in addressing community needs and improving outcomes for individuals and families in some of San Antonios most troubled communities. Agency-wide, services typically reach over 80,000 individuals and families annually. As one of San Antonios oldest and most respected organizations, Family Services history is marked by strategic community collaboration, program excellence, social innovation, and financial accountability in support of our dedication to families. These hallmarks of organization, collaboration, program excellence, and fiscal strength have been rewarded both locally and nationally with numerous awards, honors, and recognition. Family Service partners and collaborates with many social service agencies and health care systems in San Antonio, most San Antonio school districts, universities/colleges, the City and County, court system, juvenile justice system and other organizations in the community, with 200+ working relationships established both formally with Memoranda of Understanding and informal agreements, and implements more than 86 federal, state, local government and private foundation service contracts, and programs. The agency also maintains offices in Uvalde in Uvalde County and Crystal City in Zavala County and serves 12 additional rural counties utilizing space from other partners. Additionally, Family Services Neighborhood Place, a community hub, with on-site partners and off-site partners providing resources and services to the economically challenged and historically under-served Westside of San Antonio. It was a former elementary school that Family Service purchased and renovated on 4 acres and 64,000 sq. ft in 2016 with proceeds from a building campaign and New Market Tax Credit. In December 2019, Family Service was gifted a building in Crystal City to develop a community center to serve the underserved communities in our rural border counties of Dimmit, Maverick, Uvalde, Val Verde and Zavala Counties and has been converted into the Family Service Neighborhood Place in Crystal City. It has been open since March 2023. Family Service strives to remain a high-impact, trauma-informed nonprofit-organization addressing the wide array of needs in our community; resulting in collective impact, growing community capacity, mobilizing around the Social Determinants of Health to address ever evolving, emerging community needs and improving long- term health outcomes and life potential; focusing on achieving outcomes tied tomeaningful,measurable change, one individual, one amily, one neighborhood at a time. In September 2023, Family Service purchased a former church which is in an area of town that lacks resources for low-income families. Family Service is in the process of redeveloping this space to expand our current Early Childhood programs and adding other needed services.
