In accordance with U.S. GAAP, management performs an annual assessment for any uncertainty in income tax positions that includes an analysis of whether there are any tax positions the Federation takes with regard to unrelated business income, related deductions applied or other activities that may jeopardize their tax-exempt status and thus would meet the definition of an uncertain tax position. The tax benefits recognized in the financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement.
