Accordingly, for all taxable activities the Company uses the asset and liability method to account for income taxes, which requires the accrual of income taxes currently payable and the recognition of deferred tax liabilities and assets for the expected future tax consequences of temporary differences between tax bases and financial reporting bases for assets and liabilities. The effect on deferred tax assets and liabilities of a change in tax rates is recognized in income in the period in which the legislation is enacted. A valuation allowance is provided when it is more likely than not that some portion or all deferred tax assets will not be realized. The Company followed the provisions of ASC 740 that clarify the accounting for uncertainty in tax positions and prescribe guidance related to the financial statement recognition and measurement of a tax position taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. The tax benefit from an uncertain tax position is only recognized in the consolidated statement of financial position if the tax position is more likely than not to be sustained upon an examination, based on the technical merits of the position. Interest and penalties, if any, are included in expenses in the consolidated statement of activities. As of December 31, 2024, the Company had no uncertain tax positions that qualify for recognition or disclosure in the consolidated financial statements. The Company's federal and state income tax returns, with respect to its unrelated business income and the income of its for-profit subsidiaries are subject to examination by federal and state authorities in the area of income and franchise tax. The statute of limitations for the tax years ended December 31, 2021, expire November 15, 2025. Calendar tax years after that date, 2022 to 2024 are open to federal and state examination.
