The accounting standard on Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the consolidated financial statements. Under this guidance, the Organization may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of the Organization and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business taxable income (UBTI). For the Foster G. McGaw and Albert W. Dent individual scholarship grants (to members only), the Foundation's scholarship committee processes candidate applications, confirms eligibility, confirms participation in an accredited MHA program, evaluates candidates and selects award winners. The Foundation of the American College of Healthcare Executives established these scholarships in honor of Albert W. Dent, the first African-American Fellow of ACHE, and Foster G. McGaw, the founder of the American Hospital Supply Corporation. These scholarships are offered to provide financial aid to students in healthcare management graduate programs to help offset tuition costs, student loans and expenses. Offered annually, Albert W. Dent and Foster G. McGaw Graduate Student Scholarships are designated for students enrolled in their final year of a healthcare management graduate program. Each scholarship is worth $5,000 and ACHE awards up to 15 scholarships each year. The American College of Healthcare Executives sponsors the annual Richard J. This sponsorship, in the amount of $1,000, is one of the ways that ACHE supports high quality academic research in the area of healthcare leadership. As a part of the ACHE Healthcare Management Education Development Grant, the Foundation awards the independent contractor to develop courseware, course materials, and participant materials. The Donald Snook Educational Fund supports real-world internship opportunities for local students through an annual case competition. The program is administered through the Healthcare Leadership Network of the Delaware Valley.
