The Organization classified the individual as an independent contractor under California's ABC test. The California Employment Development Department (EDD) subsequently reclassified the individual as an employee and assessed retroactive payroll tax liability. The Organization is appealing the EDD's determination. Management believes the original classification was appropriate and in accordance with applicable law.
