An independent, non-profit newsroom, we are dedicated to reporting with and for immigrant communities in New York City and beyond. We provide original, responsive reporting and actionable resource guides in English, Spanish, Chinese and Haitian Creole and on the platforms immigrants use. Our journalism relies on the following strategies: ? Community Engagement & Trust-Building: Community correspondents - who are from the communities they are covering and speak their native languages - are constantly engaging with and responding to our immigrant readers in order to build trust and to center their needs and interests. We do this through in-person events, in-depth audience research, and continuous one-on-one conversations on our community-powered platforms where we know key communities spend time - WhatsApp for Spanish speakers, WeChat for Chinese speakers, and NextDoor for non-Spanish-speaking Caribbean communities. ? Service Journalism: Based on our community listening, we create actionable, tailored, language-specific information (how-tos, resource guides, and Know Your Rights explainers) to help our community readers protect their livelihoods and families, claim their rights and realize personal goals. ? Accountability & Beat Reporting: Our award-winning journalism is informed by reader tips and conversations, and covers issues from immigration enforcement to labor, housing, and social services, holding institutions and people with power to account. Our stories also focus on moments of joy and profiles that help build community identity. ? Investigations: We do investigative reporting that requires long-term research and data disaggregation around urgent issues that emerge for our low-wage immigrant audiences. This work includes our Wage Theft Monitor (a database mapping out 11 years of wage theft data from the U.S. and NYS Departments of Labor) and an ongoing series on how mis- and disinformation proliferates on non-English language social media and how to build awareness and accountability. ? Narrative Change & Knowledge-Building: We share our reporting to ensure that key concerns and authentic stories are lifted up for policymakers, government agencies, nonprofit advocates and people who care about immigrant inclusion through our multilingual website and English-language newsletter Early Arrival.
