Charity Foundation of South Carolina begins its' grant award process by reviewing grant proposals to ensure that the Foundation guidelines are met for mission, geographic area, program area, and population served. Required documents from potential grantees include audited financial statements, IRS determination letter and IRS Form 990. After initial verification has taken place, a program officer/grants manager is assigned to each proposal. Additionally, site visits are conducted with representatives from the organization, and a narrative summary is completed for the distribution/grant committee. All proposals are then carefully reviewed by staff and the distribution/grant committee to identify those applicants that best serve the Foundation's mission and analyze proposed budgets to fulfill its' obligations as stewards for the Foundation funds. After the selection process is complete, the distribution/grant committee makes its' recommendations to the Full Board of Trustees at its' next meeting. Once a grant has been awarded, grants are monitored through site visits to ensure proper use of funds. Periodic reports and budgetary information are required and reviewed for consistency and adherence to the program goals and objectives. When the grant period has ended, closed grant/final evaluation reports are completed and reviewed by the program officers/grant managers for compliance with the grant agreement and used as an internal document for future funding. SCHS also utilizes an outside consultant which provides market data for similar positions at other organizations. Foundation compensation is the responsibility of the Foundation Board. All Foundation Board actions are subject to review by the member.
