Once a fund agreement is in place with an organization, the Foundation will receive funds from the organization and invest the funds. Use of the invested funds is subject to the same policies as other funds at the Foundation, such as investment, grant-writing, and spending policies. Part V, Line 4: The Foundation's endowment consists of a series of individual funds established for a variety of purposes. Its endowment consists exclusively of donor-restricted funds and funds held for recipient organizations. As required by generally accepted accounting principles, net assets associated with endowment funds are classified and reported based on the existence or absence of donor imposed restrictions. Part X, Line 2: The Foundation is organized as a Kansas nonprofit corporation and has been recognized by the IRS as exempt from federal income taxes under IRC Section 501(a) as an organization described in IRC Section 501(c)(3). Further, the Foundation qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under IRC Sections 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) and (viii) and has been determined not to be a private foundation under IRC Sections 509(a)(1). The Foundation is annually required to file a Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax (Form 990) with the IRS. In addition, the Foundation is subject to income tax on net income that is derived from business activities that are unrelated to its exempt purposes. For the years ended December 31, 2024 and 2023, the Foundation has determined that it is not subject to unrelated business income tax and has not filed an Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return (Form 990-T) with the IRS. I, Line 2: Once an organization has been approved for the grant, the check and a contract is sent out. It is the responsibility of the organization to sign a copy of the contract and send it back for the Foundation's records. The contract states the amount the organization is receiving and what it is specifically to be used for. The contract also informs the organization of a required final report that is due one year from the application date. With the final report, the organization is to submit copies of all receipts that the grant money was used for. If for some reason the organization needs to deviate from the initial project they can submit a deviation request to be approved by the grant committee and board of directors. At this point, the grant committee can ask for a portion of the grant funds to be returned, the whole amount to be returned, or approve the deviation. All applications and all deviation/continuance requests, along with all final reports are kept on file with the grant contracts. Once the final report is received with all supporting documentation, the grant is closed. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 6 The board of directors are the only members of the organization. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b A draft of IRS Form 990 is provided to all board members for review and approval prior to filing.
