Part III, Line 4: The Museum of African American History, Inc. (the Museum) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the contributions of people of African descent and those who have found common cause with them in the struggle of liberty, dignity and justice for all Americans. Incorporated under the laws of Massachusetts in 1967, the Museum is New England's largest museum that tells and echoes the powerful stories of the survival and liberation struggles of Black communities, families and their children. To this end, the museum collects and exhibits artifacts, educates the public of the relevance and importance of the artifacts and, in so doing, celebrates the enduring vitality of African American culture. Part X, Line 2: The Museum is exempt from taxes under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) to operate as a not-for-profit. The Museum has also been classified as an entity that is not a private foundation within the meaning of Section 509(a), and contributions to the Museum are deductible by the donors as provided in Section 170(b)(1)(A)(viii). The Financial Accounting Standards Board Accounting Standards Codification (FASB ASC) Topic 740, Income Taxes, establishes financial accounting and disclosure requirements for recognition and measurement of tax positions taken or expected to be taken.
