The shelf has operated since the early 1970's, was incorporated in 1998, affirmed as a non-profit in 2003. On average, approximately 4,500 individuals a month were served throughout the year. Approximately 35 lbs of food were distributed to each client. That amounts to about 1,890,000 lbs of food distributed in 2023. 46962 35264 Groveland Emergency Food Shelf, Inc. operates, in collaboration with Minneapolis Community & Technical College (aka Minneapolis College), a satellite food shelf on the MCTC campus. Close to 160 individuals benefited from the Minneapolis College Food Pantry each week. There were over 8,300 visits to the Pantry in 2023. 8000 8000 0 Groveland began a new collaboration in 2020 with Liberty Community Church in N. Minneapolis. This collaboration takes several forms. 1) Grants were made to the church's emergency fund designated for food relief, 2) Fresh produce, meats and other perishables were provided for meals to students of the church's 21st Century Academy, an after-school program that acted as a WiFi pod during most of the pandemic. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b A draft of this completed 990 and all attached schedules were distributed to all Board Members. This distribution was made via email and members were given at least one week prior to a scheduled board meeting to make comment. The Board then approved by voice vote to accept the document as submitted or as modified. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 The organization's governing documents and financial statements were presented to the Board of Directors at scheduled meetings. Visitors are welcome to attend regularly scheduled meetings and all in attendance are provided copies of all documents. Form 990, Part VII, Section A, Line 1a Longtime Food Shelf Director retired in January 2023 and the Treasurer was voted by the Board to be an Interim Director with a specific salary. New Executive Director started in June 2023 and experienced a family loss almost immediately. The Board authorized payment to Treasurer as an independent contractor to step in while Executive Director was on funeral leave. New Executive Director subsequently resigned in October 2023 and the Board once again elected the Treasurer to be an Interim Director at the same salary as before. Treasurer normally completes the 990 for the organization. However, the Treasurer suffered health problems right as the process of completing the return should have started. Request for extension was filed in a timely fashion.
