Starting out slowly to carefully plan and implement the Organization's charitable activities and identify an American scholar to oversee those activities, the Organization has grown from one major donor in 2016 to 25 donors in 2022. We continue to seek out new donors on a continual basis.The nonprofits website: americanfriendsofcapodimonte.info is accessible to everyone. There is a donate with PayPal or Debit or Credit Card feature and the AFC also accepts checks.A periodic e-newsletter is distributed to a mailing list of over 350 people. It has a robust schedule of events ranging from exhibitions, to Zoom lectures, to in person tours, to international trips. The major annual fundraiser is the AFC trip. The 2022 trip took place in September and raised $30,000. The 2023 trip took place in June and raised $38,000.The Capodimonte Museum was closed for much of 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 concerns, and thus, AFC was unable to visit with donors/members. People were not traveling domestically, let alone internationally, to Italy. It also impacted our ability to generate interest among the general public. As we have now come out of the global pandemic period, we are cultivating more donors and are able to host more fundraising events. In January 2023, we held an event in Washington, DC which was attended by 22 people.AFCs Board of Directors is diverse geographically, culturally, and by age. The youngest board member is 32 and the oldest board member is 82. When AFC started in 2016 there were three board members. Currently there are eleven (2 are related). In the years since inception, there have been three presidents. Board seats rotate every two years. There are now close to 60 lifetime donors to AFC with many of them making annual gifts. The AFC Fellow publishes regularly. She also gives tours to an English-speaking audience, has been interviewed on BBC News about the collection, and she gave an AFC lecture in October 2022 that was open to the general public.Since COVID-19 made it more difficult to attract qualified candidates to the program, the current AFC Fellow agreed to stay on for a second year and so, we were granted a reprieve. The application process for a new AFC Fellow opened in late 2022 and closed in January 2023. The Program Manager and Board Secretary (both curators at major US museums) managed the screening of candidates. The newest AFC Fellow began her appointment on September 1, 2023. The former AFC Fellow completed her tennure in July 2023.As mentioned above, now that COVID-19 constraints have lifted, we were able to facilitate a successful trip to Naples in September 2022 for major donors, we had three public Zoom presentations in 2022, a Washington DC event in January 2023 that was open to the public, and a trip to Paris in June 2023 for donors. Our current public support percentage is 28.48%, up 2% from 2021, and we feel that we are moving towards and will be able to achieve the 33.3% public support percentage as we recover from the impact of the pandemic and have more accessibility to, and interest from, the general public.
