Firstly, MFSA hosted its first two Great Debate events on the MIT campus, which were open to all members of the MIT community. In April 2023, MFSA hosted a debate concerning the utility and necessity of academic Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. In November 2023 we hosted a debate on the existence of systemic racism in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) professions. Both debates were moderated by Nadine Strossen, former president of the American Civil Liberties Union. The debates in total were attended by roughly 300 individuals, and their recordings have amassed more than 35,000 views on YouTube. Additionally, in September 2023 MFSA held its first ever conference, attracting roughly 60 members of the MIT student, faculty, and alumni communities. The conference featured a variety of panel discussions and lectures on issues of free expression and academic freedom at MIT and in higher education more generally. The conference featured a keynote address by famed economist and cultural critic Glenn C. Loury. In addition to our public events, we carried on with our regular member outreach and communications. We hosted four quarterly meetings with our members, which featured special guest speakers; among our guests in 2023 was MIT President Sally Kornbluth. We also maintained our regular member newsletters to keep members aware of MFSAs activities and free speech-related news from MIT. We also significantly enhanced our web presence and communication abilities with the design of a completely new website and construction of a new member relationship management (MRM) database, though which MFSA can schedule and promote events, send communications, and host forums for member discussion. Conflict of interest policy compliance Part VI line 12c The Board, the Executive Committee and the officers are all aware of and were involved in the debate on, and adoption of, the conflict-of-interest policy. All of these are aware of the obligation to disclose any conflict of interest. The Board, Executive Committee and officers monitor all transactions of the Corporation for potential conflicts of interest. To date the corporation has not had any transactions with interested parties. None of the officers, directors or employees have any financial interest in the Corporation or in any person or entity with whom the Corporation has had any financial transaction or other dealings. The Board, Executive Committee, officers, and the Executive Director will continue to monitor all dealings of the Corporation for conflicts of interest in accordance with the policy.
