During the current fiscal year, we lost at the district court and appealed to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. After the end of the current fiscal year, we lost the appeal, and filed a petition for writ of certiorari at the United States Supreme Court, where the case is pending. We are seeking fees. This case is in the public interest because the district's policy violates the Constitution. (2) We assisted outside counsel in defending a street preacher at the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Outside counsel sought fees. This case is in the public interest because we helped defend the preacher's free speech and free exercise of religion rights. (3) We are representing a couple in administrative hearings in Vermont. They are being denied foster parents placements because of their religious views. For that reason, this case is in the public interest. Fees are not being sought. (4) We provide pro bono services to the Congressional Prayer Caucus Foundation. This work is in the public interest because all the issues we assist with relate to state and federal constitutional rights. (5) We filed 6 friend-of-the-court briefs at the United States Supreme Court, and the Courts of Appeals for the First, Second, Third, and Eighth Circuits, representing, variously, ourselves, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Samaritan's Purse, the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, The National Association of Evangelicals, Concerned Women for America, Congressional Prayer Caucus Foundation, The Family Foundation, Illinois Family Institute, Wisconsin Family Action, Pacific Justice Institute, International Conference of Evangelical Chaplain Endorsers, Anglican Church of North America, Baptist Convention of Iowa, Delaware Family Policy Council, Ethics and Public Policy Center, Hawaii Family Forum, Justice & Freedom Law Center, and Minnesota Family Council. Each case was in the public interest because it involved protecting either the unborn or constitutional and statutory rights related to free exercise, free speech, or free association.
