Schedule D, Part II, Line 9 BFLT records land and land interest at cost, if purchased, or at fair value at the date of donation, if received as a gift. Fair value is based on independent appraisal when available or estimated by management from comparative information. These assets fall into two categories. 1) Conservation land - real property with significant ecological value. These properties are either managed in an effort to protect the natural biodiversity of the property, or transferred to other organizations or governmental entities that will manage the lands in a similar fashion. 2) Conservation easements - intangible assets comprise of listed rights and/or restrictions over the owned property that are conveyed by a property owner to BFLT, in perpetuity, in order to protect the property as a significant natural area, as defined in federal regulations.
