Recipients are selected by the JCIRA FUND Committee upon completing an application form. The $12,917 represents money that had been donated by individuals to support Afghan refugees, including for car expenses, food, clothing and rental deposit. 1 12917 0 Internal accounting records Schedule I, Part I, Line 2 The JCIRA Legal and Family Support Fund makes financial grants, typically $500- 1000 per applicant per year for expenses including food, clothing, shelter, immigration-related legal application fees, car repair, medical and other household expenses. Applicants are eligible for the Fund if they live or work in Jefferson or Clallam Counties, WA, or if they or family members are detained at the Northwest Detention Center for immigrant detainees in Tacoma, WA. Applicants are interviewed by phone or in person and fill out an application which is reviewed and approved/denied by the "JCIRA Fund Committee". Once the money has been received, JCIRA may contact the recipient to provide a statement about how the money was beneficial to their family, while striving to be non-intrusive into the personal lives of recipients. In fiscal 2023, we awarded 105 grants to 97 individuals/families. The JCIRA does not provide grants in excess of $1000 to any one individual/family via the JCIRA Fund. Item on Schedule I, Part III, Line 1 was a separate, one time grants as part of our refugee/asylum sponoship program, approved by the JCIRA board and not part of the JCIRA Fund. Form 990, Part III, Line 2 We opened the JCIRA Multicultural Center storefront in Port Townsend Washington in 2023. The center serves as the location where clients obtain JCIRA services and access to services not offered by JCIRA, attend or teach classes, obtain free food pickup, attend events such as health care information sessions and legal assistance clinics, and meet with others. It is also serving as the JCIRA headquarters. Prior to 2023, we worked out of board members homes. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7a JCIRA awards "membership status" to anyone who has made a financial contribution of any size since the previous board election, or anyone involved with JCIRA who requests from the Board a waiver of the contribution requirement. Those who are members have only one benefit/responsibility: to vote in the annual December election of board members. Members have no other role in governance of the organization.
