" 1674360 1123717 Immigrant Justice ProgramDuring FY2023, our program made a significant difference in the lives of low-income clients, specifically immigrants. We currently have 936 open cases. Our program also assisted 73 domestic violence victims. Our program also provided advice and extended representation to immigrants both in office and through the Pro Bono office located in the Charlotte Immigration Court. With the assistance of volunteers from UNC and Duke Law School, the program screened and prepared asylum applications for the Asylum Clinic project in FY2023. 309192 207509 Consumer Protection and Veterans ProgramDuring FY 2023 this program made a significant difference in the lives of low-income people with consumer protection, home preservation, housing and employment access, and re-entry issues. The program offered legal advice and extended representation to over 220 families with housing issues, debt collection issues, unfair trade practices, scam prevention, property tax delinquency and property tax exemption issues. Additionally, 47 additional families were assisted with community outreach and education in these areas. The Programs Community Empowerment Project offered legal advice and extended representation to 79 clients to expunge criminal records, helped 16 clients with legal advice and representation regarding drivers license restoration, and 89 clients through outreach and education programs. The CEP project is exploring expanding opportunities with the Courthouse and our pro bono program to provide more expunction services to the community. LSE served more than 130 Mecklenburg seniors 60 and over with preparation of legal documents that preserve self-determination and mitigate risk of guardianship. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Pro BonoDuring FY 2023 this program made a significant difference in the lives of low-income clients allowing Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy to expand its service by involving volunteers to assist clients. The program offered legal advice and representation provided by pro bono attorneys to 224 clients in all of the organizations service areas. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The Form 990 is prepared by an independent CPA firm and is reviewed before filing by the Chief Financial Officer, Development Director and Executive Director. Depending on the timing of Finance committee meetings, the Form 990 will be reviewed by the Committee either before or after filing. The Committee will include in its report to the Board its review, and each Board member will be provided access to the Form 990. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c Respond to and investigate any activities that may be questionable. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15a The salary of the Executive Director is approved by the President of the Board of Directors consistent with Board policy. Periodically the President makes a survey of salary for comparable positions. The salaries of all other personnel are set by the Executive Director, consistent with Board policy.
