Legislative conference: The association brings together the statewide membership, once a year, in Lansing to meet with our state legislatators and discuss with them the issues that face our industry here in Michigan. It is a valuable day for our members as they have the ear of their legislator and for the legislators as they get educated from their constituents on their issues and what they would like to see done at the state level. Government Affairs: Our primary focus at the state office is to represent our members with our state leadership. We work to build good rapport with our elected officials by providing them with education and information to assist them in doing their jobs. There are two membership categories: employer members and chapter members. Employer members must be members in good standing of a local chapter. Employer members of the association are the directors on the board. Pt VI, Line 7a The governing body is a board of directors. The board of directors may be nominated by employer members and chapter members, and are elected by employer members. The governing body is responsible for all governance decisions except those reserved to the members by law. Election of the board of directors is reserved to the employer members. Pt VI, Line 11b A copy of the 990 is distributed to the Board either in person or by email prior to its filing. The board members are asked to review it and send questions to the finance director. Pt VI, Line 12c The association monitors its policy by an honors system. The policy is included in each board member's board book. Each year at the first board meeting a conflict of interest form is distributed for board members to list any known conflict, sign it and return it to the finance director. Pt VI, Line 15a The Executive Committee reviews the salary & performance of the CEO annually. Pt VI, Line 15b Each member of the Committee prepares an evaluation form. The Committee then meets with the CEO and recommends a salary increase/bonus based on performance and budget constraints.
