This situation forces many therapists to opt for private pay, excluding middle-income families. OpenMinds' mission is to bridge this gap, ensuring equitable access to mental health services. The community's demand for psychological assessments is high, with current waiting periods extending up to 9 months, exacerbating the mental health struggles of adolescents. A significant reason for this issue is the shortage of psychologists available to administer these assessments. These assessments must be conducted by psychologists specifically, and not by Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs), Social Workers, or Psychiatrists (MDs). Our comprehensive services include individual, family, and group therapy, as well as psychological and neuropsychological evaluations. Functioning as a training facility, we offer training and clinical supervision for Psychological Associates and Associate Marriage and Family Therapists on the path to licensure. Our approach centers around client-centered, culturally competent, and evidence-based care, ensuring the highest standards in our services. At OpenMinds, our primary focus is on providing inclusive and accessible mental health services. To achieve this, we are in-network with private insurance, aiming to enhance the accessibility of mental health support for the youth in our community. The mental health crisis among our youth is widespread, and our youth and families are struggling to access affordable care. There is a scarcity of mental health clinics accepting private insurance, primarily due reimbursement rates that are not adequate to support the administrative costs of running a clinic, while providing high quality services, and retaining therapists. Due to lower reimbursement rates and increased administrative burdens with private insurance, many therapists in our community accept only private pay, limiting access for financially constrained families. Despite existing support for lower-income families, a significant gap persists for middle-class families who contribute to private insurance. Bridging this gap is crucial for making mental health care more accessible to all socio-economic groups, focusing on equitable access for those using insurance despite lower reimbursement rates.
