Using that information, they discussed and decided on a salary range for the Executive Director position and voted on such. Form 990, Part XII, Line 1 Organization transitioned to an accrual cash basis to better reflect the actual financial standing of the organization. KCS has drastically increased its grant revenue so that it is the highest concentrated revenue source. As opposed to cash donations, KCS often receives grant awards & contracts before the funds are received. Accrual basis accounting shows a more accurate picture of KCS financial future. Accrual basis also allows leadership to better make proactive decisions and also allows the board of directors to better provide oversight. Previously, KCS largest revenue source was cash donations. Therefore, most During Summer 2022, KCS contracted with a financial consultant to review financial statements, reports, documentation, and processes to create an action plan for getting our financial processes audit-ready. During this process, KCS realized that it needed to change CPA firms to get more accurate, timely, and detailed financial reporting and guidance. KCS is in the middle of that transition and waiting to receive responses to our RFP for accounting services. KCS created a new position of Financial Coordinator to oversee much of this transition process. The candidate chosen accepted another position last minute, leaving the position vacant. KCS has limited administrative staff and has been working diligently to discover and fix all errors, including revamping the chart of accounts, functional expense allocations, financial processes and documentation standards. KCS has transitioned to QuickBooks Online and incurred many difficulties in transfer the CPA's QB Desktop file with KCS QB Online system which required exponentially more work to clean up. In contracting with the financial consultant, KCS is increasing its financial management and oversight knowledge, skills, infrastructure, and processes so that it can be more proactive in decision-making and planning.
