Each request is reviewed by our Community Service committee for a determination for funding. Funds may be granted from our organization or through a specific committee that specializes in the area sponsored by the organization. Both the Community Service committee and the Committees of service have specific budgets and operate within those parameters. The Special projects committee reviews larger grant applications normally in excess of $5,000. All grants approved by committees are brought to the Board for further consideration and then to the membership as a whole for approval before funds are awarded. Part III Line 1 Column (b) SIA awarded 20 scholarships this year. Payments are made directly to the educational institutions to which the awardees will attend. Part III Line 2 Column (b) Awards were made to 6 individuals. There were 3 Live Your Dream Awards, 2 Violet Richardson Awards, and 1 Women of Distinction award. Part III, line 3 Soroptimist International of Anacortes SIA no longer runs the thrift store that was it's source of funding. The organization now receives all of it's funds by donation. The thrift store is now run by a separate organization that is also tax exempt under IRC Section 501c3. SIA owns the building and leases it to this tax-exempt organization. Due to the change in funding to SIA we will now qualify as a non-profit organization based on the contributions received. We will no longer have income from the thrift store. Therefore we will qualify under IRC Section 4947 a 1Avi and complete Part II of Schedule A rather than Part III. Part VI, Section B, Line 1 All members have equal voting rights and approve all financial expenditures. The Committees and Board review the grants prior to bringing them to the membership. No grants are given without the entire membership approving the donation. Part VI, Line 4 SIA has split off the running of the thrift shop to another tax-exempt organization Soroptimist Thrift Shop of Anacortes. SIA leases the building to this organization. SIA is now funded entirely by donations from the public. Part VI, Line 6 The organizations had 95 members who all had equal voting rights. Part VI, Line 7a All members vote to elect the officers and directors of the club. There are no stockholders. Part VI, Line 7b All decisions are voted on by the members. The Board and committees make recommendations to the members before a vote is taken. Part VI, Line 11b The return is completed by the Finance Committee chairman and provided to the Board President. The board is convened and the 990 reviewed. The 990 is presented at the next business meeting to the membership and copies are available for review. It is then signed by the president and submitted. Part VI, Line 12c There are no paid employees in the club. Members with a vested interest in any issue are asked to identify the issue and are not allowed to vote on any grants or matters that pertain to the issue. None were identified during this year. Part VI, Line 19 The governing documents conflict of interest policy and financial statements are maintained in the SIA office. They available upon request and can be made available during office hours. Either a board member of treasurer will make any requested documents available. No requests were received this year.
