The Association sponsors a series of educational lectures, presented by industry experts, regarding topics such as "best practices" for art collectors, small business growth and development, and the broader cultural impacts of philanthropy and art institutions. The Association also administers cooperative advertising programs in conjunction with its members to further the purpose of supporting the economic and cultural contributions of art dealers. All costs of these programs are borne by the individual members, not by the Association. The Association expresses its views to various legislators on matters affecting art dealers,including bills and court rulings. Additionally,the Association has set aside funds to aid members of the arts community in the event of a natural or manmade disaster. Many members of the New York arts community's gallery spaces and works of art were destroyed by the ravages of Superstorm Sandy in 2012. As part of its primary mission, the Association established a fund to ensure that the victims of the storm would be able to remain in business and carry on the stated purpose of the Association. The remainer of donations has been retained to provide similar aid in the event of future disasters. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 6 Organization is a 501(c)6 trade organization. The Art Dealers Association is structured so that participating dealers are members. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 7a Existing members of the governing body may admit other members to serve on the Board of Directors. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b The Board of Directors authorizes the Executive Director and the Financial Administrative consultants to review the form 990 before finalizing the return. The form 990 is made available to all members of the governing body who request it. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 Compensation is determined by comparability data. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 The organization makes its governing documents, financial statements and form 990 available to the public upon request, in the offices of the Art Dealers Association.
