<Desc>Economist Index Program - shedding light on child sexual violence projectThe Economist Intelligence Unit proposes a research program that will develop first of its kind benchmark to assess the state of sexual violence against children around the world, as well as an outlook for the future. The core component of the research program is an assessment of the current state of sexual violence against children and the legal and institutional underpinnings to combat it. Childhood USA with partners (other funders, experts and policymakers) will collaborate closely with the EIU on this program. The benchmarking tool will allow for comparisons across countries against a set of relevant and actionable metrics. The research program will empower World Childhood Foundation to engage key stakeholders on the topic, to amplify its core message, and to leverage research and evidence to propose policy and programmatic initiatives to prevent sexual violence against children. This is of utmost importance for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 16.2. The EIU report will help to generate greater awareness among a wider audience about the scale of Child Sexual Abuse and put the topic on the global agenda.</Desc>

<Desc>Program support - Safe HorizonSafe Horizon will leverage nearly 30 years of experience providing evidence-based, trauma-informed treatment for child victims of crime and abuse at its Brooklyn-based mental health Counseling Center to provide an improved approach to children who replicate the sexual abuse that was perpetrated on them with other children. Safe Horizon will adapt Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), a widely-disseminated evidence-based model for treating children with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), for use with children who re-enact sexual abuse. Safe Horizons Counseling Center (SHCC) provides an ideal laboratory in which expert clinicians can develop and pilot this adaptation. The principal objective for the project is to create access to evidence-informed outpatient trauma treatment for child victims in New York City who re-enact sexual abuse, thereby supporting a shift in treatment approach with implications for the broader field.Program Support - Peer Health ExchangeContinued expansion of Peer Health Exchanges (New York and California) behavioral health curriculum, increase the number of volunteers, establish new chapters at area universities and new sites (Staten Island, San Jose University) and adapt program to serve young people during afterschool and out- of- school time with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula.</Desc>

<ExplanationTxt>PART II, Line 1, Column (H):Name of organization: American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children Research Project (APSAC) (H) Purpose of Grant: To support Child Abuse Prevention ProgramIn the past decade, the focus on programs aimed at preventing sexual abuse of children has expanded from a sole focus on teaching children skills to teaching adults how to recognize and intervene with potentially harmful behaviors. Program directed at children have shown some success in short term knowledge gains and encouraging reports from children already victimized. Given that the developmental capacity of children no match for the skill of a determined predator, the move to a focus on adults is welcome. There is a need to have an eco-system approach. Programs such as Stewards of Children/Darkness to Light [www.d2l.org] and The Enough Abuse Campaign [www.enoughabuse.org] have reached tens of thousands of adults with this important message. However, both programs, and others like them do not share a valid and reliable method to assess the impact on participants. This deficit is a major barrier to moving this field forward; until we have such an instrument it is impossible to truly assess the impact of these programs. As forces ranging from public policy to private insurance companies call for implementing programs to prevent child sexual abuse, it is critical to know which interventions are associated with change in adults advocacy and protective behaviors to help keep children, families and communities safer.Name of organization: High School Situational Prevention Approach (H) Purpose of Grant: To promote Child Safety Awareness The goal of this project is to develop a version of Dr. Kaufmans Situational Prevention Approach tailored to the safety needs of high schools and to incorporate a student empowerment component which would allow students to take a leadership role in carrying out the safety process in NYC high schools. The project is aligned with the planned safety-oriented trainings for school staff and students and the schools see it as value-added. It is anticipated that approximately 1500-2000 students will be impacted by participation in the High School Situational Prevention Approach (HSSPA) prevention process across the four participating schools. An additional 40-50 students will serve on the schools HSSPA School Action Team and 15-20 students will serve on the HSSPA Advisory Board. It is important to note that once this project is complete and the model is available for national dissemination, it will have the potential to impact tens of thousands of students nationwide.Name of organization: Peer Health Exchange(H) Purpose of Grant: To support scaling PHE ProjectsIn the Bay Area, the World Childhood Foundation funding will support the implementation of the health education program as outlined below. Additionally, Childhood support this year will help PHE meet the following project specific goals of expanding youth reach in the Bay Area.Name of organization: Safe and Sound(H) Purpose of Grant: To promote Child Safety AwarenessInvesting in prevention and early intervention programs like ChildSafe is good for public health. Childhood grant of $70,000 will help to enhance and sustain this vital program. In 2019 Safe & Sound will: ? Increase knowledge and skills to recognize, report, respond to and prevent child abuse and child sexual abuse.? Serve over 5,000 children with school-based personal safety education lessons in K-5 classrooms and the acquisition of knowledge and skills to help keep themselves safe. ? Provide approximately 200-250 parents with knowledge and skills to recognize, report, respond to and prevent child abuse and sexual abuse, and to better support childrens safety knowledge. ? Train an additional 1,800 adults, including teachers and mandated reporters. In post-training assessments, our goals are: 95% of teachers will report that students were given tools to keep themselves safe; 90% of adults will report they are more likely to act if abuse is suspected; 70% of children will demonstrate knowledge of gun, anti-bullying, and internet safety.Name of organization: Safe Horizon(H) Purpose of Grant: To support Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral TherapyThe Safe Horizon Counseling Center (SHCC), the only New York State-licensed mental health clinic specializing exclusively in the treatment of trauma resulting from crime and victimization is leading this project, which is taking place in three phases from 2018 to 2020, as follows: 1. Trauma- Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) Certification: TFCBT is the most widely implemented trauma therapy in the world for treating children with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The first step to adapt this model is for SHCCs therapists to become certified TFCBT practitioners. Certification has recently been introduced by TFCBT practitioners to elevate the practice and ensure high standards of model fidelity. As one of the first sites trained in TFCBT and one of the most experienced providers in the nation, SHCC is well positioned to successfully complete certification.2. TFCBT Adaptation: TFCBT can readily be adapted to address reenactment. SHCC is collaborating with Ms. Epstein for the duration of the project. SHCC and Ms. Epstein will work together to promote the identification, engagement, and treatment of sexually abused children who exhibit TFCBT adaptation for children who reenact sexual abuse. In addition, SHCC is developing an outline for best practices for safety planning and family engagement and conducts best practices workshops for staff. One of the most important issues to address in serving children with the trauma reaction of sexual abuse reenactment is helping CAC (Child Advocacy Centers) multidisciplinary teams identify which children are most likely to be safely and effectively treated in an outpatient setting with TFCBT. Publication of Findings: In the third year of the project, SHCC and Ms. Epstein will finalize the adaptation of TFCBT for children engaged in the trauma reaction of sexual abuse trauma reenactment. A critical component of this project is the dissemination of a report on this adaptation model.Name of organization: The Bridge for Youth(H) Purpose of Grant: To support Child Abuse Prevention ProgramTo expand prevention services, specifically targeting sexually exploited youth and youth at risk of exploitation. Grant funds will support three main initiatives related to the expansion of the Youth Services Network Minnesota (YSNMN.org) mobile app. YSNMN.org is a mobile application designed by the Bridge for Youth that serves as a resource that connects street affect youth directly to shelter beds, as well as outreach and crisis intervention services.Name of organization: The New York Foundling(H) Purpose of Grant: To support Child Abuse Prevention ProgramTo enhance organizations impact on child safety in New York City, CAPP (spell out) is expanding its coverage of the emerging issue of sex trafficking in its Professional Training Program. The New York Foundling is incorporating this topic into its full-day training for school professionals since last year in response to recent studies indicating that children as young as those in their target audience were being trafficked. This year The NY Foundling is working to enhance its presentation on this topic, making school personnel aware of signs that a child may be a sex trafficking victim, such as absenteeism from school or dramatic changes of behavior.Name of organization: YouthLink(H) Purpose of Grant: To support Child Abuse Prevention ProgramTo focus its intervention strategy on community engagement, building capacity to be a community leader and convener around the sexual exploitation of youth. YouthLinks Intervention Navigator, Anastasia Kramlinger, will focus exclusively on community engagement and agency capacity building. An additional Opportunity Navigator (0.5 FTE) will be hired so that YouthLink can continue to provide case management to over 2,000 young people experiencing homelessness each year.</ExplanationTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>Consulting fee paid to The Economist Intelligence Unit as a part of Economist Index Program: shedding light on child sexual violence project. The Economist Intelligence Unit proposes a research program that will develop first of its kind benchmark to assess the state of sexual violence against children around the world, as well as an outlook for the future. The EIU report will help to generate greater awareness among a wider audience about the scale of Child Sexual Abuse and put the topic on the global agenda.</ExplanationTxt>
