We worked closely with the Georgia Institute of Technology to optimize that patch and applicator for faster application release, increased comfort and use on the abdomen as well. In 2022, ACC&D was governed by an 10-person Board of Directors, and also guided by a 15-member Science Advisory Board and an 8-member International Advisory Board. ACC&D advisory boards provide important subject-matter expertise that help guide projects and enhance ACC&Ds ability to serve as a trusted source for information on non-surgical fertility control and related innovations. 990 Page 2, Part III, Line 1 Mission (continued) ACC&D inspired the 2008 creation of the $75 million Michelson Prize and Grants program of the Found Animals Foundation. To date, the organization has made over $19 million in grants to over 40 research projects to invent a non-surgical sterilant for dogs and cats. ACC&D continues to collaborate with this program in several ways. ACC&Ds funding is independent. 990 Page 2, Part III, Line 1 Mission (continued) ACC&D relies on grants from not-for-profit organizations, private foundations, corporations, and individual major donors for its primary support. ACC&Ds Council of Stakeholders comprises leading organizations which provide strategic and networking support as well as key financial resources to help ensure ACC&Ds sustainability. Council members in 2022 were Alley Cat Allies, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), The Regina Bauer Frankenberg Foundation, Four Paws, The Humane Society of the United States, International Cat Care, Maddies Fund, Mars Petcare, Petco Love, PetSmart Charities, and a foundation who prefers to remain anonymous. 990 Page 2, Part III, Line 4 Other Programs (continued) Progress toward a non-surgical sterilant, and broader use of contraceptives: ACC&D monitored and reported on advances with a single injection sterilant technology for female cats that completed a successful 3rdyear breeding trial in 2022. Technology transitioned into drug development, and work with dogs has begun. We also monitored several other research initiatives, providing guidance as appropriate. As the pandemic and veterinary staffing shortages continued to cause delays in access to veterinary care, there has been an urgent need for alternatives to spay/neuter surgery. ACC&D supported veterinarians and shelters using or considering use of megestrol acetate, an affordable oral contraceptive, to prevent pregnancy in cats who did not have timely access to surgery. 990 Page 2, Part III, Line 4 Other Programs (continued) Outreach and Education: ACC&D affiliated speakers presented at or virtually attended a number of conferences. ACC&D held a meeting for our Council of Stakeholders with a full update on this field. 990 Part VI, Line 11b The 990 is reviewed in detail by ACC&D's President and Treasurer. Once the 990 is approved by these officers, copies of the 990 are distributed to the Board. 990 Part VI, Line 11b ACC&D reviewed and updated its Conflict of Interest Policy in 2013, and a Conflict of Interest Questionnaire was completed by Directors in 2013-14, and 2016 -22. ACC&D monitors and enforces its Conflict of Interest policy on a regular and consistent basis by reviewing all ACC&D business relationships with the Board members and by means of discussions at Board meetings. Pt VI, Line 19: ACC&D's annual financial statements and 990's are available on another website, www.GuideStar.org, which is an independent non-profit research provider. Governing documents and conflict of interest policies are available upon written request to ACC&D. 990 Part VI, Line 15a & 15b ACC&D reviews benchmark salary data when hiring and adjusting salaries. The Board of Directors approves all salary adjustments and new hire salaries. ACC&D believes that ACC&D's pay scale is in line with other non-profit salaries for this size of organization.
