Form 990, Part III, Line 4a Statement of Program Accomplishments continuation In 2022, UMA continued to realize our position as champions for manufacturing as a wealth building strategy through our Communities of Practice, cohort initiatives, and original research in partnership with our network of over 2,000 practitioners. We had three predominant topics of focus capital access, Pathways to Patient Capital, ecosystem-building Local Branding, Bay Area Urban Manufacturing Initiative, Design Jams,, and workforce development, Industry Inclusion. Form 990, Part III, Line 4a Stmt of Program Accomplishments continuation Place-based strategies We completed the Making Impact Fostering and Scaling the Cincinnati Maker Community project, resulting in a feasibility study and recommendations for launching the Cincinnati Makers Council and a renewed Made in Cincinnati Initiative. We published the Seeding, Starting, and Scaling Local Branding Initiatives, a study of economic development strategies that establish and support entrepreneurial manufacturing ecosystems. We co-hosted the Green Industrial Design Jam in New York City and the Detroit Design Jam. Together these events brought together over 100 designers, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and their supporters to solve local problems by leveraging local manufacturing capabilities and manufacturing ecosystems. We hosted the Local Branding Initiatives Community of Practice, bringing together over 15 leaders of established Made In initiatives from across the country via monthly online group discussions to share and learn about best practices. Form 990, Part III, Line 4a Inclusive Workforce We Launched the second Industry and Inclusion cohort, comprised of twelve community colleges participating in Community of Practice to address equity and inclusion in the manufacturing sector. We published the Industry and Inclusion Launch Commentary, which includes a framework and roadmap for this initiative. We developed a national advisory board and network of expert advisors, that contributed to 15 group meetings and provided over 100 hours of technical assistance to cohort members. We organized a day-long learning and work session in conjunction with the UMAs National Convening in Houston, which included tours, keynote speakers from the White House and local community colleges, and peer learning opportunities. Form 990, Part III, Line 4a Catalytic Capital We rolled out the Black Paper on Inclusive Capital for Manufacturers in partnership with Zebras. We launched Tools For Equitable Acquisitions in Manufacturing TEAM project with an inaugural cohort of CDFIs focused on capacity building to support transitions of manufacturing businesses to employees and people of color. We presented the TEAM project at the Prosperity Now annual summit. We published three Action Guides, a new instructional format Character Based Lending, Impact Note and Circular Lending. We published How Chips and Science Act Will Make Inclusive Innovation Possible in partnership with The Century Foundation. We published The Challenge of Business Succession in Manufacturing and the Opportunities for Diversification. We held meetings with a number of Federal department staff including a meeting in April with the Department of Energy on capital access for manufacturers and the Department of Commerce in October about the Chips and Science Act and racial equity in manufacturing. Form 990, Part III, Line 4a In addition to our programmatic achievements, several hit several notable organizational milestones We transitioned from a single executive director model to a shared leadership model of five co-directors. We expanded our board to include two need board directors. We produced another successful gathering in Houston, partnering with the West Houston Institute at Houston Community College on the convening Manufacturing Resilience Ecosystem Strategies for Building Community, which drew participants from across the country.
