Promise reviews grades, attendance, residence, behavior and community service hours, and sends out Letters of Approval to those who meet all the criteria. The qualifiers must sign the FERPA Release Form to accept any Promise benefit and become a Scholar. New Haven Promise receives enrollment status, financial aid information and transcripts of all Scholars for each semester directly from colleges and universities. Promise verifies Scholars' eligibility of funding and calculates individual scholarship amounts. Scholarship grants are disbursed directly to colleges and universities and then credited to student accounts for educational costs, not to exceed the total cost of education, which is determined by each educational institution.
