<Desc>Client Services: Street Youth Ministry (SYMin) serves street-dependent youth ("clients") with three strategies: meet them where they are and provide physical relief, engaged them in our core services, and help them set goals and priorities for growth and healing. In 2022, we completed our fifth year of operation in our rented facility near the University of Texas. We transitioned from entirely pop-up events in borrowed facilities prior to 2017. In 2022 we met 473 new clients overall, 9.5 per week, up 59% from 2021. We served 770 unique clients (up 38%). Through August, we continued our pandemic transitioned program: (1) Xdrop-by" services - outdoor counseling and supplies handed out at a distance from our main facility, (2) on-line and hybird group events hosted on Zoom, Continued on Schedule O</Desc>

<Desc>Internships: SYMin trains future leaders through our paid internship program. Over 10 weeks, interns are trained to lead volunteer-based, urban poverty-informed ministries. Some go on to serve or start ministry work at their churches. Others augment the humanitarian aspects of their planned careers, e.g., teaching, legal, medical, etc. Some join SYMin staff. All staff and interns receive our specific, repeatable training curriculum, including a textbook on street youth culture, weekly video discussion of the book, weekly video training, handouts on practical skills, a weekly project to cement the learning in place, and hands-on,supervised daily work. In 2022, we trained 12 interns (up 50% from 2021). Continued on Schedule O</Desc>

<Desc>Public Awareness: SYMin raises public awareness by telling stories from the street, using media, public speaking and class projects at all levels of education. Street youth are frequently invisible, not understood, and always underserved. We provide downloadable and printed resources, lead service projects, supply public speakers, and publish awareness-raising newsletters. Our public awareness program increases the visibility of needs for our population, and some other faith-based workers who started with us as volunteers or met us at public awareness events have begun serving street youth intentionally. Our newletter base in 2022 is 7,026, down 20% to 2021. <ExplanationTxt>Form 990,Part III, line 4a: (3) Help Line services by phone, text, and social media, and (4) outdoor outreach services in multiple locations including Austin and San Marcos. In August, we returned to indoor services and a mixture in other locations: (1)outreach in four or more locations weekly, (2) clothing, showers, and supplies twice a day form our "Sunshine Store," (3) weekly events for healthy fun and relationship-building in our "Events Center,X and (4)nine weekly groups in our Learning Center to foster growth and healing. Thus,we have successfully returned from pandemic emergency response to our ogingal strategy of engagement. The response has been quite good, but we know we must be gentle with the change, as the impact of the extraordinary financial, political and public health climate may last for some time in the loswest ranks among our improverished and homeless neighbors. Growth in rates of youth homelessness are normal following crises, starting about 18 months after they pass. We were able to expand each program. Our drop-by services, provided for the fist eight months of the year, continued to focus on providing access, and we handed out essentials for 256 unique clients (down 9% compared to 12 months in the prior year). Food insecurity greatly increased this year and last. We added outreach bags in the last four months of the year and delivered a staggering 449 outreach and food pantry bags (up 58%)! Food insecurity remains a huge issue on the streets due to pressures on the food supply and reduction of outlets during the pandemic. Our drop- in service (which include the Sunshine Store and Event Center) served 98 unique clients in the last four months of the year. We continued our hybird groups all year and emphasized our Learning Center the last four months, serving 129 unique clients (up 18%). Attention to grouth and healing occurs here. Our Help Line and virtual services expanded our "Learn and Earn" incentives program for 92 clients (up 14%) and distributed many resource referral or how-to-cards electronically, serving 337 unique clints (down 3%). We added weekly outreach locations in East Austin, North Austin and San Marcos, where homeless poputlaions are more isolated. We focused on delivery of essentials, referrals to needed services, and delivery of on-the-spot guidance to 340 clients in Austin (up 89%) and 165 in San Marcos (up 99%). The needs on the street are enormous post-pandemic. All our service are designed to build relationships and rapport, including events such as weekly Game Night, Talent Night and Friday Fun Day (which features community guests or organizations and a theme). Group events cultivate in our clients a desire for more stability, sobriety, reconnection with God and a faith home. These include weekly Bible Study, Prayer Group, Women's and Men's Support Group, and two weekly Peer Support sessions and two weekly computer lab sessions featuring our Learn and Earn soft skills classes. SYMin staff and volunteers witnessed for Christ 1,273 times (up 1%). Outcomes are very good for young homeless people, despite the pandemic. They most often find entry-level education, get a job, or obtaining housing. SYMin's guidance counseling services are designed to help clients set goals and priorities for changing their lives. In 2022, 196 clients achieved goals (down 14% from 2021). For the entire year, 35% engaged deeply (up 1%), as defined by at least 40 hours service and 10 deep conversations. Of those engaged clients, all had goal achievements to change their lives. By comparison, in the group we served last year that didn't yet have deep engagement, only 25% achieved goals. Those who engage in services are four times more likely to be making changes. Clients are diverse: 18% are Black, 16% Hispanic, 5% other. 43% are female.</ExplanationTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>Form 990, Part III, Line 4b: Two were San Marcos-based. We trained seasonal interns to help in our Drop-in Center -- one for spring, three for summer and three for fall. Three filled internships reserved for former clients who have recovered from poverty but not yet found career paths. One was our Salesforce intern, reserved for a technical trainee identified by other programs as a minority or disadvantaged technology trainee candidate. We make available mentoring from our staff during the internships so they can better find stable career paths. All internships are paid. <ExplanationTxt>Form 990, Part III, Line 4c: loss in our public awarness program. The base includes our quarterly newletters (2,391, down 33%), prayer letter (955, down 35%), volunteer letters (1,546, down 9%), and collaborator newsletter (253). Our SMS program and print program are the only segments that grew, with 791 and 550 subscribers, up 108% and 2% respectively. We have 2,471 Facebook followers (up 2%). We have resumed speaking opportunities. We adopted a new marketing platform tool and have begun "warming" campaigns for all new subscribers to help them know what to expect and be able to better control their information flow. We will continue to monitor how the public wants to be made aware of programs like those we offer. There is great turmoil in the social media and communication landscape.</ExplanationTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>Form 990, Part III, Line 4d:SYMin organizes and trains workers through our volunteer program. The easing of the pandemic last year allowed us to regrow the program. In 2022, 326 volunteers (up 19% from the prior year) helped us, and they contributed a total of 3,096 hours (down 17%). Volunteers made deliveries of food, clothing and supplies more than 1000 times for a total estimated value of $141,533! Recruiting, organizing, thanking, and sustatining hundreds of voluneers who show God's love to clients in unexpected and delightful ways is an important part of the program. In the fall, we increased access for volunteers to help clients directly, with 79 (up 280%) serving 521 hours (up 33%) directly or behind-the-scenes. Direct volunteer options include helping in our Sunshine Store and Event Centor or on outreaches. Another huge way our volunteers help our clients is handling donated food and supplies. We keep our local volunteers informed by a real-time inventory posted on our website. We keep out-of-town volunteers informed through our Amazon wish list. Our 303 (up 50%) amazing in-kind volunteers help us with plenty of food, clothing and supplies, dropping them off or shipping them to us. They served 1,675 hours as they kept everything supplied. They gave an estimated $24,499 worth of food, which allowed us to provide food on all outreach encounters, hand out 898 food bags and serve an estimated 3,144 meals! They also provided an $97,963 worth of clothing and other supplies. Almost every visitor gets an outfit, with very limited options for laundry available. Sevice project for small grops returned in the fall. Each volunteer brings God-given gifts and skills not present on our staff. We know many volunteers have moved from Austin, but they have taken with them valuable information and experiences about homeless youth, who are present all over the country and can engage with us virtually and through our Help Line services.</ExplanationTxt>
