The Club property is direct waterfront property situated near the East coast of the US, and includes boating docks, anchorage and basin and is located in Hudson County, NJ which was declared a Federal disaster area. In 2013, the Club received property damage insurance proceeds of $369,075 that was used entirely to reimburse the Club for property damage repairs and expended to restore the Club's property to its form and status prior to the Hurricane Sandy damages. Form 990, Part IV, Line 1 Please be advised that the Robbins Reef Yacht Club ("Club") has filed this 2021 Form 990 under the Federal tax exempt status provided under Section 501(c)(3) that agrees to prior years' Form 990 filed for years 1998 through 2020. However, the Club attempted to file this 2021 Form 990 as a Section 501(c)(7) tax exempt entity to agree with an IRS Determination Letter dated March 30, 1993 that was recently discovered in the Club archive files. But, the e-fling of the 2021 Form 990 return (as a Sec. 501(c)(7) entity) was rejected because the filing status did not agree with IRS Master file status for this entity which is shown as a Sec. 501(c)(3) organization. However, the Club believes that sometime before 1998, the Club also received (but has misplaced) a subsequent IRS Letter that determined the Club qualified as a Sec. 501(c)(3) tax exempt entity, which is the reason that the Club had filed its Form 990 returns from 1998 through 2020 - as a Sec. 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. The Club could not perform an on-line search on www.irs.gov/teos for its current IRS Determination Letter because, according to IRS Form 4506-B Instructions, IRS Determination Letters issued before 2015 are not available on-line. Therefore, to obtain IRS verification of the Club's current tax exempt status, on September 21, 2022 the Club has filed via a direct e-mail to this IRS email address: (tege-eo-my.eo.request@irs.gov) the IRS Form 4506-B, Request for a Copy of Exempt Organization IRS Application or Letter to request a copy of the most recent IRS Determination Letter that is on file with the IRS. The Club has not yet received a response from the IRS to this request because according to Form 4506-B Instructions, it may take at least 60 days to process this request, that could be further delayed due to the current post-COVID pandemic IRS processing delays. If the Club receives a copy of an IRS Determination Letter that confirms that the Club is a Section 501(c)(7) tax exempt entity, the Club will file an amended Form 990 for year 2021 and includes the additional required information, including Schedule B. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6 The Robbins Reef Yacht Club is a NJ non-profit corporation formed on September 13, 1906. The Club has 127 voting members. The members annually elect officers and trustees as its governing body. The Club has no employees and no officer or member receives any compensation. All members are required to work a certain number of hours annually on the premises, with no pay.
