TISC students participate in positive, skill building experiences learning water safety, responsibility, respect, communication, teamwork, leadership, and appreciation for their environment. TISC is a large scale, multiuser, year round sailing school on San Francisco Bay operated by dedicated staff and volunteers, emphasizing full community involvement by offering access to all, regardless of financial ability. 0 0 591510 100244 The Treasure Island Sailing Center provided 1,717 youth and adults of all abilities and socioeconomic backrounds in the San Francisco Bay Area 16,603 hours of sailing opportunities for either instruction or recreation. Part X, Line 2: TISC is exempt from taxation under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) and California Revenue and Taxation Code Section 23701d. Generally accepted accounting principles provide accounting and disclosure guidance about positions taken by an organization in its tax returns that might be uncertain. Management has considered its tax positions and believes that all of the positions taken by TISC in its federal and state exempt organization tax returns are more likely than not to be sustained upon examination. TISC's returns are subject to examination by federal and state taxing authorities, generally for three and four years, respectively, after they are filed. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b Form 990 is reviewed by the Board of Directors prior to filing with the IRS. The BOD and Executive Director review a comprehensive set of financial documents each month. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c Periodic reviews are conducted to ensure that TISC operates in a manner consistent with its charitable purpose. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15a The review, compensation and benefits, and approval of hiring our Executive Director is handled by the Board of Directors. The compensation package is based on a range of criteria including the Bay Area's market rate for similar non profit organizations. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 All policies are available to persons upon request. Each year TISC has a financial audit by an independent CPA firm which is also reviewed by the BOD.
